The cleanup drive on 11th January 2015 was extremely well attended, thanks to Prof Vijay Chavan of BMCC.
He had taken the lead in fixing the date and getting the BMCC NCC students as well as NSS students out for the cleanup. We had contacted Fergusson College NSS students who joined in as well as a group of youngsters calling themselves the Indian youth Brigade, the employees of HDFC bank in Model Colony and of course members of DGPS and FCPS.
One set of volunteers cleaned up the FC section of the hill while the other tackled the BMCC part. Two big truck loads of garbage were collected by 10 am. While it was tragic to see the huge amount of trash that had to be cleared, including from banks like ICICI and Bank of Maharashtra, as well as chemical lab equipment that must have come from Fergusson College, it was very heartening to see the large number of youngsters who turned up at the crack of dawn on a precious Sunday and the enthusiasm they displayed.
